Originally released in 1969 alongside the El Primero collection, the Defy disrupted the scene with its unusual octagonal-shaped case and 14-sided bezel. Zenith set a goal to create and release a robust and aesthetic diving watch. The octagonal case shape was strategically selected to withstand the water pressure at depth and the dial is protected by a domed mineral glass. Vintage collectors also call this watch “Plongeur” ??or “SubSea.”
