The pair was marketed in the iconic ?100-foot dunk? commercial, and sports a white mesh upper, with a black patent leather overlay. Additionally, the pair sits atop a Phylon midsole with a full-length Air Sole unit, and a translucent outsole.
The sneakers themselves ? designed by legendary Nike designer Tinker Hatfield ? were created when Tinker realized that Mr. Jordan would roll his foot on hard cuts when playing. Hatfield took this opportunity to build a sneaker that would suit Michael with these difficult movements during gameplay. The patent leather on the uppers of the shoe additionally allowed Michael to wear the sneakers with a suit.
