After decades of collaborations, in July of 2018, Nike and Amsterdam-based artist Pieter “Parra” Janssen teamed up yet again to create another iconic Air Max 1 design. Released alongside a track jacket and Zoom Spiridon, the Air Max 1 Parra features colorful pieces from the artist?s work, which was inspired by both his love of visual pop culture and the Dutch cityscapes and countryside.
In 1987, Nike introduced the revolutionary Air Max 1, the first Nike shoe to sport the Air-cushioned sole. Nike?s Air technology, developed by NASA engineer Frank Rudy, first debuted nearly a decade prior with the Air Tailwind. However, until the release of the Air Max 1, the performance-enhancing feature had remained hidden. Since then, the original Air Max 1 design has spawned numerous hype-worthy collaborations and special editions, not to mention the rest of the classic Nike Air Max sneaker series.
