The Nike SB Dunk Low Pro ?What The Paul? was released to celebrate Nike?s longstanding partnership with eight-time X-Game medalist Paul Rodriguez, who now has 10 signature shoe designs to his name. As tribute to those designs, this Dunk features some of the most iconic colorways and design details found in P-Rod?s extensive sneaker line.
In accordance with Nike?s ?What The? concept, ?What The Paul? showcases a mismatched design scheme of blending different materials, prints, textures and hues from the skateboarder?s collaborations. Such references include the elephant print accents, a nod to the P-Rod 1 ?J-Rod,? and one multicolor toe box as seen on the P-Rod 1 ?Mexican Blanket.?
The Nike SB Dunk made its formal debut in 2002, when Nike officially reappropriated the famed Dunk basketball sneaker originally designed in the 1980s with upgrades suited for the skateboarding community. The man behind it, former Nike executive Sandy Boedecker, is credited with building one of Nike?s most beloved subdivisions in the early 2000s with the Nike SB line.
